About

Better Personal Trainers

The Improve Academy has been born out of a frustration at the state of affairs within the fitness industry.

Over the last 10 years, the Personal Training qualification field has become very muddy; shifting from 6-week intensive courses running from 9am to 5pm courses to Groupon offers where you can qualify overnight for a few quid.

The market has never been more saturated and whilst that can certainly be deemed as a negative, it has also never been easier for quality and professional PT’s to stand out.

With the experience we’ve gained over the last few decades (combined) on the gym floor and running a five-star facility in Glasgow since 2015, we believe we are perfectly placed to teach, develop and nurture aspiring Personal Trainers to the point they are ready to achieve their goals within our industry.

We also believe, having developed our own team from their PT course to leading seminars for the staff of some of the UK’s top independent gyms, that we can help qualified Personal Trainers take their careers to the next level.

Founder of the Improve Academy

Ross Stewart

From kicking off his PT career back in 2010, after completing an honours degree at Scotland’s University of Sporting Excellence in Stirling, Ross has worked as a freelance PT in numerous commercial gyms in Scotland, as well as in a private facility in Sydney, Australia.

Ross was the first Personal Trainer to win Lift The Bar’s ‘PT of the Year’ award, voted for by his peers, and Improve Glasgow was the first Scottish gym to be given Gold Standard rating by the IFBA.

He’s coached 1-to-1, run bootcamps, coached online and now runs a predominantly small group training gym, Improve Glasgow, which is currently in its second iteration after doubling in size in March 2019.

Today, Improve Glasgow looks after the training needs of hundreds of clients and boasts a team of industry leading Personal Trainers.

Both Improve Glasgow and Ross have been featured in national media more times than we can count; from features on the BBC’s Scotland Tonight to STV News and regular contributions on BBC Radio Scotland as a fitness expert, including a co-hosting a 6-week health and fitness show with River City and Still Game’s Tom Urie.
